Filmic Festival, Bristol

Two great Bristol cultural institutions, The Watershed cinema and St George’s concert hall, have partnered through February and March to create the brand new Filmic festival, a celebration of the crossovers between music and film.

Through most of February, it’s all about the Spaghetti Westerns. Over at the Watershed, they’re taking over the bargain-priced Sunday Brunch slots while at St Georges, Proms favourite The Spaghetti Western Orchestra on Thursday 9th is already sold out but there’s still Rota/Morricone on the 23rd.

For me though, a highlight will be the screening of reportage photographer Seamus Murphy’s 12 short films he’s made to accompany the 12 tracks of PJ Harvey’s album Let England Shake (which appeared in most of the “Top Albums of 2011″ lists). At £7.20 for 55 minutes, it’s not particularly cheap (you can buy the DVD for not much more) but I expect it to be worth it for this rare opportunity to experience this combination of Murphy’s images on the big screen and Harvey’s album through all the quality of the Watershed’s sound system. Sunday, 26th February, 6pm. More info here…
